The US President Barack Obama thanked Russia for the successful operation of evacuation of a shot down Chinook helicopter of the US Armed Forces in Afghanistan, said Russian MFA Spokesman Andrey Nesterenko.

“On the part of the United States Government in the name of the President gratitude was expressed to Russia’s Government for this selfless move and action of our specialists working in Afghanistan", said Nesterenko.

The MI-26 helicopter of the Russian Vertical-T air transport company, which is hauling freight for the international forces in Afghanistan, successfully evacuated the shot down American Chinook helicopter. MI-26 flew 110 kilometers with the American helicopter secured on an external load.
