The Eighth Meeting of the Working Group on Afghanistan under the Ministerial Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization took place yesterday in Moscow, where the Organization Secretary General, national coordinators of the CSTO member states on Afghanistan and the CSTO Plenipotentiaries took part.
During conference on the situation in Afghanistan, the participants of the Working group declared that the situation in this country as well after the presidential election continues to remains difficult enough and has a tendency to worsen. The participants of the meeting noted the necessity for building-up collective efforts within the Collective Security Treaty Organization to counteract challenges and the security threats coming from the territory of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, as well as to establish cooperation between CSTO and other international organizations handling problems of ensuring international and regional security in the Afghan direction.
The participants of the meeting took into consideration the information on the implementation of work schedule of the Working group on Afghanistan under the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers for the first half of 2009 and studied the Draft Program for the first half of the next year. It was admitted reasonable to hold in December of this year a special extraordinary session of the Working group, during which to complete the Draft Program of joint actions of the CSTO member states for contribution to stabilization of the situation in IRA and counteraction to challenges and threats coming from Afghanistan for its further introduction at a session of the CSTO Permanent Council. 2009-11-12 17:46
