The Georgian Intellectuals Opposed to the Regime of Saakashvili
Writer Chabua Amirejibi, theatre director Gogi Kavtaradze, chess player Nona Gaprindashvili, Academician Giga Batiashvili, actor, scriptwriter and film director Rezo Esadze, political scientist Soso Tsiskarishvili and other prominent public figures of Georgia appealed to the public with a special message.
The appeal says that no one should remain without action in front of the process of destruction of the Georgian state.
“The democratic prospects of the country are facing disaster. The territorial integrity is violated. The population leaves their homeland, where injustice and political terror reign. A citizen of the country is no longer of any value to the government. Our country needs help! Otherwise, for our children and grandchildren the reality will be much harder than the current intolerable situation,” the appeal says.
It also notes that instead of correcting the situation, authorities try to keep the public in the dark, controlling media resources of the country.
The communication says that time has come that the multinational population of Georgia analyses the current situation in Georgia and formulates a unified view of the country's democratic development, which will be acceptable to all layers of society.
“We urge all our citizens, public organizations, political forces! Let us at this crucial moment put the interests of our Native land above all. Let us with maximum efforts join in the formation of the National Representative Assembly for the consolidation of a decent future of the Georgian state,” the appeal says.
Chabua Amirejibi noted that in this appeal there is nothing about the imperial ambitions of Russia and the loss of Georgian lands, which according to the writer occurred through the fault of the President Saakashvili. 2010-01-28 17:27
