Russian Northern Fleet Training Under Exercise Stabilnost-2008
In accordance with the plan of strategic command-and-staff exercise Stabilnost-2008 the Northern Fleet conducts a training of multiple-type fleet forces at training ranges in the Barents Sea to improve skills of personnel operating the surface ships, nuclear-powered and diesel submarines, crews of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters. The surface ships and submarines as well as naval aircraft will practice command, control and cooperation between them.
As of today, the large ASW ships Admiral Pavluchenko and Severomorsk, mine sweepers of the Kola Flotilla, nuclear-powered and diesel submarines already have driven out. ASW aircraft Ilushin-38 carry out flights.
Vice-Admiral Nickolay Maximov, Commander-in-Chief of the Northern Fleet, will be aboard the surface ships involved in the training for several days in order to verify readiness of the fleet command and control centers.
